Sierra
Biplane Adventures LLC is located at the Reno Tahoe International Airport
in Reno, Nevada. We are located within Sierra Air Center at 485 S.
Rock Blvd. We also be fly from the South Lake Tahoe and Truckee
airports one or two days per week during the spring and summer months.
While we're
big on having fun and not much for rules we do have some
simple guidelines we
must follow for your safety and ours.
We
normally fly seven days a week, February thru November, but If the weather
is nice, we'll even fly in December and January for you. During the hot
summer months we prefer to fly from 7am
to noon, because the rides are much better then. The rest of the year
we'll fly from 8am to sunset.
Reservations
are required for all flights. It's best if you can call a week in advance to get the time you want. But last minute
scheduling may be available, so be sure to call if you can't wait!
Weather
isn't usually a problem for us. If you look outside in the morning and
can't see the mountains you may want to call and confirm, if we haven't
called you already.
We'll
give you a gentle ride unless you specifically ask for some thrills. We
can't do upside down aerobatics, but if you do want some thrills
we can make it wilder than any roller-coaster you've ever ridden.
Our Waco
carries two passengers in the front cockpit, weight permitting. We have a
weight limit of 330lbs for both passengers. Everyone gets a window seat
and there's no real height limitation. But if you're over 6'-6" your
legs may be a bit cramped (you're probably used to that if you're that
tall). While the aircraft does have a gross weight limitation, the
real restriction is usually width at the hips. Two big guys will fit okay
(up to a point), but if you're both really wide at the hips it may be a
bit tight, because the cockpit is only so wide at that level. If you live
nearby and are concerned about it, come on out for a trial fitting.
We
can fly kids from 2 to 92 (or even older). If they're willing to wear a
helmet and stay strapped in, we'd love to share the experience. But keep
in mind that this is something they'll remember all their life either
because they loved it or because they hated it - we definitely prefer that
it be the former. Incidentally, kids - as you've probably noticed - have a
short attention span. If they're younger than 8 or 9 you're probably
better off on the shorter flights. Very young intrepid flyers usually fall
asleep quite quickly! (Older ones start hugging and kissing).
Dress as if
you were going to travel to the airport in a fast convertible. Please wear
soft sole shoes. Sunglasses are also recommended. We provide all the
exciting stuff-Helmets, goggles, leather jacket and silk scarf.
Your
flight can be more thrilling than a roller-coaster or gentle as a feather
bed. You decide!
If
you want to fly alone we'll let you take the controls and do some of the
flying, no pilot's license required.
Our
Waco was built in 1941 for the Civilian Pilot Training Program (CPT) and used
as an intermediate trainer for military pilots. It has since been
painstakingly restored and is meticulously maintained to provide you the
safest flight possible. You can learn more about the Waco UPF-7 by looking
at our history
page.
You'll also
definitely want to bring your camera.
